Outpatient Alcohol Treatment Programs

Outpatient alcohol treatment programs provide a unique way for you to maintain ties with your family, work and community while still attending to your health with a therapeutic treatment. Often in day treatment form, outpatient alcohol treatment programs allow you to come and go as you please, asking only that you come in each day for a full program of therapy, group meetings and educational classes.

The Canyon offers an outpatient alcohol treatment program just outside of Los Angeles, California, on a beautiful estate in the Santa Monica Mountains.

Outpatient Alcohol Treatment Program Benefits

There are a number of benefits that come with outpatient alcohol treatment programs. If you have a job or need to stay in contact with work while you undergo alcohol treatment, an outpatient program will allow you to do that. While inpatient treatment programs offer provide for a "blackout" period that denies you communication with friends and family for a certain period of time, there is no such stipulation with an outpatient program. As long as you maintain the requirements and attend all the mandatory classes, therapeutic treatments and group sessions, you are free to do as you like as long as you remain sober.

Outpatient Alcohol Treatment Program Points to Consider

For many, an outpatient alcohol treatment program is the best option. The concerns about financial and time investments are less as compared to inpatient alcohol treatment and those who are tentative may wish to start with this option first. There is always the ability to "upgrade" your status and enroll in an inpatient residential treatment program if you find that that an outpatient program simply is not enough to start you on your road to recovery, as long as your program has such an option and the space to include you. Consider, too, whether your family or coworkers would be better served by your presence or your return after a more intense and comprehensive alcohol addiction treatment.

Outpatient Alcohol Treatment Programs: The Prime Candidate

If you are still physically addicted to alcohol when you begin treatment or if you are worried that you will relapse and drink without 24-hour support, then an outpatient program isn't for you. The prime candidate for an outpatient alcohol treatment program usually has not been living with alcoholism for more than a year or has undergone inpatient alcohol rehab successfully in the past and requires only a reintroduction and refresher treatment after a stint of drinking. If you have undergone alcohol treatment on an inpatient basis unsuccessfully in the past or require a medical alcohol detox, then an inpatient alcohol treatment program would likely be more appropriate.
