  • Transition Strategy for Life After Drug Rehab

Drug rehab is all anyone talked about when you hit the bottom. Your drug addiction had taken over your life and your choices were drug rehab or dying as a drug addict. Now that you’ve been through rehab, you have a whole new set of challenges. Even though this may be brand new territory for you, many others have successfully made the transition between drug rehab and regular life.

    Drug Addiction Recovery Support Groups

Support groups like NA or AA can be a vital link of support for people going through recovery. Addiction relapse may be just around the corner for people who get lax with their recovery plans. Regular attendance and interaction with a good sponsor can help you stay on the sober path you started on during drug rehab.

    Drug Rehab Alumni Services

Many drug rehab centers have good post-treatment support services. Monthly meetings, special alumni events, even scheduled opportunities to interact with addicts currently going through treatment. These services can help you stay connected with relationships that have really made a difference in your recovery.

    Sober Living Homes

Sometimes, a person is ready to leave drug rehab but not quite ready to live in their home environment. Sober living homes can be a great place for someone needing services that seem in-between informal support and full drug rehab. You are expected to live up to independent living standards like any other private citizen – pay bills, help care for the home, be respectful to everyone. But you also get the added support of staff and other sober residents.

    Help When You Get Home

Going home may sound great, but actually facing the reality may be a little challenging. Instead of putting all the pressure on yourself to get adjusted at home, arrange for someone to help you out for a week or two. They can assist you with your calendar, your bills, your grocery shopping for healthy meals, making sure you have support group meetings to attend, and so on. Once you get the hang of it, they can back off and just be an emotional support for you.

Take Drug Rehab Transition One Step At A Time

The transition from drug rehab to home can feel stressful at times. Adjustment can be tough no matter who you are. Don’t worry that you haven’t got it all figured out right away. Find ways to relax and give yourself credit for getting through each day. Once you get some good habits established, things will get easier. If you need more help during your transition, be sure to contact the drug rehab center you attended.
