Sober Living Homes
A sober living home is firstly an alcohol- and drug-free residence and secondly a support system for those who live there and are just starting out living a clean and sober life. The atmosphere is positive and hopeful with a focus on making the next right decision without getting overwhelmed by life's stresses. Others who live in the house are in the same position and provide each other with peer support that is vital for success in early sobriety.
The Canyon in Malibu is home to two sober living houses: Casa Angeles for women and Casa Azul for men. Both have beautiful rooms, are elegantly designed and furnished, each with their own private swimming pool and Jacuzzi as well as numerous secluded areas for relaxing and reflection and expansive views.
What To Expect at a Sober Living Homes
A variety of personalities make up a vibrant sober living home and as different as they may be, they all have one thing in common: they are all making the choice to live clean and sober each day. There are house rules in place to provide safety and structure for all who live there and violations of these rules are taken very seriously, dealt with swiftly and can result in eviction from the property. The wellbeing of the group is a high priority and though each individual is prized and highly valued, there is zero tolerance for using drugs or alcohol and violence in the form of threats, fighting or harassment.
The Canyon is a beautiful sober living home quite unlike any other. Weekly therapy sessions are a part of each week's routine as are single gender and mixed gender support groups, traditional 12-step treatments and nontraditional therapies like adventure and ropes therapy, art therapy, psychodrama and more.
How to Find a Sober Living Home
Just like when you are looking for any new home or apartment, there are a range of places to find leads for sober living homes: the newspaper classifieds, online classifieds, and word of mouth from friends and family. One small difference between searching out the perfect sober living home and finding just anywhere else to live is that you don't have to worry about a credit report, coming up with first and last month's rent or a security deposit. Everything is included in one fee, including utilities.
The Canyon in southern California is a sober living home that is fully furnished as well with all the amenities you could possibly desire in a vacation resort, much less a home. Stay for 30 days, 60 days or 90 days, as long as it takes to get your feet firmly on solid ground.
