Family Members Who Need Cocaine Addiction Treatment
Cocaine, a derivative of the erythroxylon coca plant's leaves and one of the most powerful stimulants known to man, is also one of the most popular psycho stimulants in the world. Produced in large quantities in countries like Brazil and Columbia, cocaine is a white powdery substance usually sold in vials or small plastic bags. People can inject it, smoke it or "snort" it, and depending on the quantity and purity of the cocaine, a person can experience an intense high that lasts anywhere from a few minutes to a half hour. Unfortunately, this brief high is quickly followed by devastating depression and an overwhelming urge for more and more of the drug.

How To Know if Your Family Member Needs Cocaine Addiction Treatment: The Symptoms
There are many symptoms of cocaine addiction, due to the fact that cocaine has such negative effects on the body. Some effects of the drug like a constant runny nose, dilated pupils, and an overly cheery and chatty change in personality can show up after just a few doses. Other physical symptoms like anxiety, paranoia, and hallucinations many only appear after a period of cocaine abuse. The culmination of a large amount of cocaine in the body can lead to serious physical and psychological consequences that are devastating both to the user and his or her family.
How To Know if Your Family Member Needs Cocaine Addiction Treatment: How It's Used
Cocaine can enter the body through four methods. The first of these, snorting, is when cocaine is taken in through the nose and absorbed into the body through the mucous membrane. The second, injection, is when the drug is dissolved in water and injected intravenously with a hypodermic needle. The third method, freebasing, is when cocaine is converted into a "freebase" form, which can then be smoked. Finally, the fourth method involves mixing cocaine with ingredients such as baking soda to create a solid form called crack cocaine, which is then smoked, usually through a glass pipe. Each of these different methods of ingestion will have slightly different effects on the user that may help you recognize when your loved one needs cocaine addiction treatment.
How To Know if Your Family Member Needs Cocaine Addiction Treatment: The Paraphernalia
Cocaine addiction is often accompanied by distinct paraphernalia, such as mirrors (used for dividing up lines of cocaine), straws (for snorting), razor blades (for dividing cocaine into lines), glass pipes (for smoking cocaine and crack), needles (for injecting cocaine) and spoons (for heating cocaine before injection). Belts and surgical tubing are often used when cocaine is injected, and scales are used when dealers weigh out the drug to sell it in smaller amounts. If you find any of these types of paraphernalia lying around on a regular basis, it is likely that your family member is addicted to cocaine and in need of help.
How To Know if Your Family Member Needs Cocaine Addiction Treatment: The Language
Cocaine has many different street names, and it's important to know what they are if you are concerned about a family member potentially being addicted to the drug. It's sometimes referred to as coke, coca, candy, snort and speedball. Nicknames for both the drug and its paraphernalia vary by region so be aware of that when your family member seems to be making coded references that you don't understand.
