Short Term Effects of Crack Abuse
Crack is a concentrated form of cocaine that is formed by freebasing cocaine with a substance such as baking soda, which results in a white, powdery rock-like substance that is usually smoked. To smoke it, a rock of crack is placed in the bottom of a glass pipe on top of a wire mesh screen before a source of heat is applied. The resulting smoke is inhaled and it this that produces the intense, short-lived high.
The Canyon is an alcohol and drug rehab center that provides crack addicts with the tools and resources they need to break their addiction and return to a normal, healthy life free from crack.
Physical Effects of Crack Abuse
When crack is inhaled, its effect is felt immediately due to the facts that crack is a concentrated form of cocaine and that the lungs are extremely good at absorbing the smoke and dispersing the toxin throughout the body. The first effects felt are those of intense euphoria, power, energy and a loss of appetite. Although intense, these effects are short-lived and disappear in just a few minutes. After the rush subsides, you are left with feelings of depression and sadness as well as a desire for more crack. Even worse, if you should accidentally overdose or are poisoned by the additives in crack, you may experience convulsions, stroke, heart attack, coma or even death.
Psychological Effects of Crack Abuse
Cocaine and crack can wreak havoc on your psychological wellbeing, and the longer you maintain an addiction to crack the more intense and irreversible these psychological effects become. In the first stages of cocaine addiction, drug users can experience confusion, irritability, lowered social inhibitions and an inability to concentrate. Addiction that continues can lead to more serious psychological effects, such as hallucinations and experiences called formications, where users believe that there are insects or bugs crawling underneath their skin.
Side Effects of Crack Abuse
Cocaine is often "cut" or diluted with other drugs or substances in order to increase the quantity and to create solid crack "rocks" for purchase. Unfortunately, these additives mean that any number of side effects can result: poisoning, coma, internal trauma, stroke, heart attack and even death. Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to know what the drug is cut with ahead or time and even more difficult to ascertain how these substances will affect you.
