Withdrawal From Cocaine Addiction
Cocaine is an extremely potent and addictive drug, and many people underestimate its power when they decide to try it. When cocaine is taken, it causes intense pleasurable and euphoric feelings which can quickly lead to addiction to the drug. Additionally, when a user stops taking the drug, they will experience feelings of intense depression and fatigue, which only helps solidify their addiction. With each dose of cocaine, more must be taken in order to achieve the same level of pleasurable feelings, and the negative side effects and symptoms increase in the same way. Although withdrawal from cocaine may not involve physical symptoms, the mental and emotional symptoms are often enough to keep people addicted to the drug.
The Canyon is a drug and alcohol rehab center that is here to help those who are addicted to cocaine recover from their addiction and return to a healthy, functional life.
Cocaine Withdrawal Symptoms
There are many negative symptoms associated with cocaine withdrawal. Some of these include things like depression, fatigue and an increase in appetite. These symptoms become worse the longer cocaine is taken, and depending on how addicted a person is, can last up to a week. Over time, these symptoms gradually replace the pleasurable high that people experience after first taking cocaine due to the fact that their bodies are becoming tolerant to the drug. Even if you increase the dosage, the negative symptoms will still be present and will become worse over time.
Cocaine Withdrawal Treatment
Withdrawal from any addictive substance, including cocaine, is challenging. When going through withdrawal symptoms such as depression and fatigue, people may try to introduce other drugs or alcohol into their systems in order to reduce the pain and discomfort. This can lead to complications and serious injury, or even death due to the interaction between cocaine and other drugs or alcohol.
In a treatment center setting like The Canyon, tested and verified medications can be used to help control the withdrawal symptoms, allowing you to experience a minimum of unpleasant symptoms. Once you go through withdrawal, it is important that you receive proper treatment, otherwise relapse may occur. Depending on the severity of both the addiction and the withdrawal symptoms, inpatient care may be necessary in order to reduce distractions and possible temptations while you undergo withdrawal, detox and recovery. Although there are no medications that can help control cravings for cocaine, there are some that are currently being tested.
Cocaine Withdrawal Treatment at The Canyon
The Canyon's Healing Life Program has at its core the goal of helping patients reawaken their goals and dreams, develop a personal relationship with themselves and awaken an authentic relationship with their lives. Treatments and therapies such as equine-assisted psychotherapy, single gender group therapy, psychodrama, 12-step groups and adventure/ropes therapy help patients make a solid start in their recovery from addiction. The Healing Life Nutrition program helps with this, providing patients with the nutrition and diet necessary to help their bodies recover from the effects of cocaine and drug use, while the licensed and certified staff of therapists and physicians review each patient's course of treatment weekly, making adjustments as needed. At The Canyon, your complete recovery is our goal, and we will do all we can to help you achieve it.
If The Canyon isn't right for you, we'll find the place that is.
