Interventions for Crystal Meth Addiction

When your loved one is addicted to crystal meth, the devastation to the family and work environment comes in waves. The nature of crystal meth addiction is characterized by periods of high level intensity followed immediately by a stretch of deep depression and agitation. The roller coaster ride is often too much for any family or work environment to bear for long, yet confronting someone with the severity of their addiction is never easy, no matter what their drug of choice.

If you need help staging a crystal meth addiction intervention for your loved one, contact us at The Canyon today.

Crystal Meth Addiction Intervention: Timing

The timing of your crystal meth addiction intervention is extremely crucial to the success of the event. In order to choose the best possible moment to confront your loved one, take the following into consideration:

  • Your loved one's state of mind. If he or she is in the "high" part of the crystal meth high, very little that you say will register with any meaning. Wait until he or she is responding and as close to normal as possible. If your loved one has recently done a line or a shot, this could mean waiting hours if not a day or more.

  • Sooner is better than later. If you're having difficulty coordinating the schedules of participants or are on the fence about going forward with the intervention, procrastination will only hurt your loved one. Like all chronic medical conditions, crystal meth addiction is most successfully treated when it is identified and treated early.

  • Timing of the intervention in relation to the earliest time that your loved one can be escorted to crystal meth rehab. The goal of any crystal meth intervention is to confront your loved one with the severity of the situation, make clear that his or her addiction will no longer be tolerated, and offer an immediate escort to crystal meth addiction treatment, an offer that, if refused, will be followed by a loss of some kind (i.e., losing his or her home, financial support, job, relationship, etc.)

Crystal Meth Addiction Intervention: Participants

The people you choose to include in your loved one's crystal meth intervention can have a real impact on the event's success. Choose people who your loved one respects, family members who genuinely love him or her and want the very best for their future, mentors or close friends whose words will be heard on a deep level by your loved one suffering from crystal meth addiction. Avoid including those who have issues with drugs and/or alcohol as well as anyone that your loved one may not be getting along with at the moment in order to maintain focus on your loved one and his or her issues.
