Seeking a Drug Detox for Your Employees

When an employee shows signs of a toxic drug addiction, the first step is to find a drug detox that is equipped to handle the physical effects of his or her specific drug of choice. A heroin or painkiller addiction requires an opiate detox. Alcoholism, of course, means alcohol detox followed by alcohol addiction treatment. Other drugs may or may not require a physical detox but will most definitely need treatment via drug rehab.

At The Canyon, we provide a wide range of treatments and detox options that are tailored according to your employee's specific needs. Contact us for more information about individual programs.

Employee Drug Detox: What It Is

A drug detox is a medical treatment that speaks solely to the physical effects of drug and alcohol addiction. In some cases, medication plays a large part, especially for a detox that comes with painful or particularly uncomfortable physical withdrawal symptoms. Addiction to alcohol, for example, or opiate-based drugs like heroin or prescription painkillers can be especially painful when broken and a detox facility can ensure that your employee is as comfortable as possible, which decreases the chances that he or she will relapse purely to stop the withdrawal symptoms. Little or no therapy is a part of the detox process. Rather, the focus is on medical efficiency and safety in the form of medication, medical monitoring, isolation from illicit drugs, rest and good nutrition to help flush the toxins from the body.

Employee Drug Detox: When You Need It

If your employee is physically addicted to any drug-that is, if he or she experiences withdrawal symptoms when they stop taking their drug of choice-then a medical drug detox is necessary.

Employee Drug Detox: How to Make It Happen

It may be less apparent to your employee that drug detox is needed, and that is where the hard part begins. An intervention may be necessary if your employee is under any illusions regarding the severity of his or her addiction, so if you need help confronting your employee or staging an intervention, a professional interventionist may be a good idea.

However, if you feel comfortable organizing the intervention and mediating the event itself and likely accompanying your employee to the drug detox you have chosen, then you will need to plan it in advance. Create a list of who should be present and assemble them once before the actual event so that everyone can ask questions, have time to prepare what they will say and to determine who will speak first and so on. Remember that the goal of an intervention is that your employee will enter drug detox immediately, so end the intervention itself with a reminder that he or she will lose their employment if they opt out of drug detox. It's not easy to place this ultimatum on anyone, but it is far kinder than simply firing them for poor performance due to drug addiction.

Employee Drug Detox at The Canyon

At The Canyon, we can provide a professional interventionist who will organize and mediate the event as well as accompany your employee to drug detox if you are too busy. Contact us today at for more information about this and other services we provide.
