Suboxone And Opiate Detox
In just the past few years, an entirely new option for drug addiction treatment and recovery has been developed. An at-home treatment medication called Suboxone has been developed allowing people to detox and treat their drug addictions in the privacy of their own home. Most-suited for people who have accidentally become addicted to opiates or prescription painkillers they were taking after an accident or a surgery, this treatment is available from a doctor's office instead of just from a clinic, allowing patients to receive help in a private manner.
At The Canyon, our doctors are certified in the dispensation of Suboxone, as well as various other treatments to address your opiate addiction issues. We have years of experience treating all types of drug and substance abuse and addiction, and no matter what type you may be suffering from, we can help.
Suboxone and Opiate Detox: The Basics
Suboxone, a combination of two different types of drugs, is used to treat drug addiction. The first ingredient, buprenorphine, helps to reduce the physical cravings that people have for drugs while going through detox. The second ingredient, naloxone, is called an "anti-abuse" agent and helps keep people from abusing the buprenorphine in the mixture.
The way that buprenorphine works is similar to the way that opiates like morphine or heroin work. It produces a high in a person, but not nearly as high as other drugs. It also blocks other drugs from having an effect on a person, so that they cannot combine drugs and create a stronger high. Naloxone acts as a sort of protectorate, in that if a person tries to dissolve and inject the drugs into their body, it immediately keeps any opiates in their system from being taken up, causing immediate withdrawal symptoms.
Suboxone and Opiate Detox: Maintenance Beyond Detox
Suboxone can be used in other ways than just detox. If an addict uses it in decreasing amounts over a period of several weeks to a few months, they can reduce their dependence upon opiates and return to a normal level of health. However, it is only viable for people who are taking less than 30mg of methadone per day, as beyond that, it is not effective in treating addiction and helping with detox. For this reason, it is recommended only for people who have a recent addiction to opiates, or who have become accidentally addicted.
Benefits of Suboxone for Opiate Detox
Suboxone is a very viable candidate for treating your drug addiction, and there are many benefits that it can bring to a treatment program. It has numerous advantages, in that is helps clear your mind and thought processes, and it allows you to recover in the privacy of your own home, instead of having to travel to or stay in a treatment center.
Where Can Patients Get Suboxone as a Treatment for Opiate Drug Addiction?
You can only get Suboxone from doctors who have been certified and authorized to prescribe and dispense buprenorphine. If you're looking for somewhere that you can receive a prescription for Suboxone, The Canyon has many doctors who are all capable of prescribing Suboxone, as well as other drug addiction treatments.
