Detox, short for detoxification, is the process of eliminating and cleansing the body of toxins left by drug and alcohol abuse. When undertaken in an inpatient setting, detox is a three-fold approach that is critical to women in their quest for a successful recovery from addiction. Though crucial, detox is not enough to ensure lifelong abstinence, but when implemented together with a comprehensive treatment program, detox can create lasting change in the habits and patterns of an addict.
The Canyon has a strong, clinically-based detox and treatment program that addresses all facets of a woman's chemical dependency, including her psychiatric and emotional needs. Upon admission, each client is assessed by an internist, addictionologist and a psychiatrist, and then monitored throughout her stay with us at The Canyon.
Perhaps the number one reason most women decline to seek help for their addictive impulses is the thought of abandoning their responsibilities to home and family. Another common reason for avoiding drug addiction treatment may be the fact that few facilities offer nonjudgmental treatment for women with dependents and/or those who are expecting.
Women need a drug and alcohol detox and rehabilitation center that is both emotionally and physically safe, one that is equipped to address their unique psychological and nutritional needs during the detox process. Women with addiction issues, especially those with co-occurring problems with depression or other psychological disorders, need a drug detox facility like The Canyon.
The three stages of detox can be broken down into the following parts:
At The Canyon, we supervise your drug detox and provide medical prescriptions to help ease your withdrawal symptoms when necessary. We also provide you with a healthy diet to help you maintain your energy and get through the detox as quickly as possible. Additionally, there are a wide variety of stress-relieving and therapeutic services available at The Canyon both during and after your detox.
With professional support and attention to detail, the staff supervising your detoxification will be proactive in providing comprehensive care in an environment that is understanding, patient and safe, followed by a personalized treatment plan that will focus on what you must do in order to stay clean and sober after detox is completed.
Studies of long-term addiction show significant alterations in how the brain functions, even after drugs and alcohol have been removed from your system. Overcoming addiction begins with determination but continues with positive support, education and healthy action.
The Canyon's approach to healing for individuals is an equally balanced approach that addresses chemical dependency and mental health issues, provides individual and group therapy, promotes immersion in 12-step recovery work and self-help support groups, and provides an introduction to a variety of mindful and spiritual philosophies and practices to enhance personal spiritual connection and personal growth.
The Canyon has a number of groups that are regularly scheduled each week, including: meditation, primary single gender therapy, yoga, art, equine-assisted therapy, Toltec or awareness, boundaries, 12-Step facilitation, ropes and challenge tower, and combined-gender therapy. We also offer a variety of other therapeutic groups that are made available as needed, including storytelling, medicine wheel, labyrinth, sweat lodge, energy work, plants for healing, Tai Chi, heart mind coherence, therapeutic breathing, music, movement, and poetry. Experiential work is the essence of our approach to the therapeutic process, which we at The Canyon incorporate into all our groups as well as individual therapy sessions.
