Dealing With an Employees Drug Addiction

When your employee develops a drug addiction, you not only lose a valued member of your staff but an investment as well. Production is down when your employee misses work or is incapacitated at work. Business may be lost and projects fall behind. But training a new employee takes time and money, too. Ultimately, the best money saving measure is to get your drug addicted employee into drug rehab as soon as possible so that he or she may more quickly return to work and make up for lost time.

At The Canyon, we can provide your employee with a comprehensive drug and alcohol rehab and give them the tools they need to return to work with a solid foundation in recovery.

Employee Drug Addiction: Intervention

An intervention is an event planned for your employee in which you and others at work confront him or her about the serious nature of their addiction. It is a nonjudgmental confrontation done without anger. You simply express your concern and allow others to do the same and then let your employee know that if he or she does not choose abstinence beginning with a stint in drug rehab, that they will no longer be employed by your business. Choose a time that won't interfere with productivity but that won't keep everyone else from their personal business for too long.

Employee Drug Addiction: Treatment

When your employee chooses treatment, you should have a spot reserved for them at a facility like The Canyon. Because you may not know the extent of your employee's drug addiction, they will need a facility that begins with a thorough intake and has the ability to provide a medical detox if necessary as well as dual diagnosis treatment if there are underlying psychological issues like depression at work as well. Outpatient treatment may be preferable if your employee's addiction is in its nascent stages or if he or she needs to be accessible for work, however, inpatient drug rehab is recommended in most cases. Aftercare services are also an essential component so that your employee has continued support after he or she returns to work.

Employee Drug Addiction: Back at Work

When your employee has completed drug rehab and returns to work, it is important that you be aware but supportive. He or she should continue to attend 12 step meetings or other support groups to maintain their newfound abstinence, but otherwise, there is no reason why their pre-addiction work levels shouldn't return and with it, your productivity levels.
