Rocker Ozzy Osbourne tells his story of excess, addiction and recovery in a new autobiography that proves it's never too late to get help.
He's a living miracle. The former Black Sabbath frontman, solo rocker, reality star and father to Jack and Kelly really shouldn't still be alive, according to Ozzy Osbourne's long awaited autobiography, I Am Ozzy. A recovering addict who's been clean since 2006, Osbourne admits he abused everything from booze, coke, heroin, acid and Quaaludes to glue, cough syrup, Rohypnol, klonopin, Vicodin and many other substances. "On more than a few occasions, I was on all of those at the same time," he says.
The abuse started during his Black Sabbath days, when the drugs and alcohol flowed freely while on the road, with one night's binge often spilling over into the next morning. "Once I started, I could never stop," Osbourne says.
Even Ozzy calls his survival through all the drug addiction a miracle. "The miracle is that I was able to stop," he explains. "I'm not proud of the fact that I nearly died on several occasions .... I was out of my mind for so long that I thought I'd try being straight for a while. If it didn't work, then I'd get back to how I was, but I kind of like it now."
He's an unlikely inspiration, but one that proves that anyone, no matter how long they've used or how heavily addicted they are, can get help.
