Plan a Successful Intervention
People who are addicted to drugs or alcohol are often irrational, deluded, in denial and incapable with being reasoned with. When people try to confront them or talk to them in a reasonable manner, they meet such advances with denial, rationalization or justifications. They may also verbally or physically assault the loved one who is trying to help. Because of this, having a properly arranged, strategized and professionally-led drug rehab intervention is the best way to help an addict come to grips with his or her problem. Without outside help, an addict is unlikely to ever truly recover from their addiction, even though they may go through up and down cycles in an attempt to quit.
At The Canyon, we can not only help your loved one by providing drug and alcohol addiction treatment, but we can help you get them there by providing you with a professional interventionist.
Prepare for a Successful Intervention
Interventions are often successful, but there are certainly occasions where they may fail. Proper preparation involves preparing yourself mentally for the possibility that they may reject the intervention at the same time as you are preparing yourself for the possibility that they accept the intervention. Try following these suggestions to prepare yourself properly:
- Plan the intervention in detail and well ahead of when it is planned to take place
- Find a professional who is qualified to lead an intervention and get their help with the planning of your intervention
- Make sure that everyone who is going to participate in the intervention knows what their role is and that everyone has the same information so that everyone is on the same page
- Practice, practice, practice! Get together for meetings and rehearsals to prepare for the actual intervention. This will help everyone to know what their role is and will help ensure a smooth and non-judgmental intervention.
- Remember that the person you are intervening for will most likely resist your intervention, will act stubbornly and may even verbally attack you and the other people who are trying to help them. Expect this, prepare for it, and don't let it distract you from trying to help them.
At The Canyon, we can help you by providing you with a professional interventionist along with the information you need in order to stage a successful intervention. With a proper intervention, your loved one can come to grips with their problem and can start on a treatment program to overcome their addiction.
