The thought of facing life as a sober and drug-free person may be so scary that you may seek to manage your feelings of fear with the very drugs you want to do away with. For a person struggling with addiction, this is completely normal behavior. Certainly not healthy, but a behavior you've by now grown accustomed to as a way to manage uncomfortable experiences.
The core of the Healing Life Program at The Canyon is to help you develop a positive relationship with yourself. Through a variety of traditional and non-traditional therapies and experiences, you will have the opportunity to reclaim your personal dreams and goals awakening your authentic relationship with life.
While drugs and alcohol might have been fun at first, the reality of addiction is much different. Being honest with yourself is the motivation to seek help, your desire for a better life is the reason to find a qualified treatment center.
The following are a sampling of self-assessment questions from the brochure called "Am I An Addict?" published by Narcotics Anonymous:
If you answered "yes" to any of the above questions, please call the confidential helpline at . For many callers, detailed clinical information will be gathered during the initial call to determine tentatively whether the best treatment will be found at Foundations, The Canyon or Michael's House.
The phone assessment gives the intake staff an opportunity to prepare themselves for the details they will need at the time of admission. The goal is to make the intake process less intrusive and less time consuming for the client. We also want to make sure that The Canyon is the appropriate service and level of care based on the consumers specific needs.
Many clients are concerned about their insurance coverage. By completing the phone intake, a better determination can be made as to level of care an insurance carrier will allow based on the clinical issues the consumer is struggling with at the time of admission.
If you're calling because you are concerned for a friend or loved one, tough-love in the form of an intervention may be necessary to break through the addicted person's walls of denial. Be ready with transportation to the treatment center immediately following in order to discourage any "bait and switch" evasive actions on the part of the addict.
If you're seeking treatment for yourself, be sure to have all the basics lined up (admittance date, items you'll need to bring, prohibited items) and write down any information or answers to questions the staff provides so you'll remember later.
If you have a supportive friend or loved one, call them to assist you with making travel arrangements to the facility, packing your suitcase, and drafting a plan for your family to carry on household affairs while you're away.
If you wish, your support person can accompany you on arrival day, but the only person permitted to stay will be the one seeking treatment.
With the desire for long-term fulfillment and peace of mind, we have found that the entry into treatment may initially feel less threatening to maintain familiar distractions, versus getting past the fear of embracing a new style of living. When entering our program, your specific concerns are matched with an internist, psychiatrist, and primary therapist who will be assigned as your core clinical team to formulate a comprehensive assessment of the medical, psychological, social, emotional and spiritual aspects of your needs.
You may come to our Healing Life Program motivated to engage in treatment to address certain parts of how you are living in an unhealthy manner which has created a dysfunctional way of being, but you may not be aware or motivated to address all aspects of your challenges. With a supportive, insightful clinical team, you will be encouraged to learn how to live without the distractions that you have grown comfortable using in times of stress, hopelessness, emptiness, and/ or during struggles with mediocrity.
