Recovery and Drug Rehab
Recovery from drug addiction is a process that is often long-term. The start of this road to recovery begins before rehab starts, with the realization that the addiction is a serious problem and needs to be dealt with. Recovery is the focus during rehab, though the journey doesn't stop there. After returning home, you must still deal with the consequences that came about as a result of the drug use and addiction. Education and job rehabilitation become crucial once the drug addiction has been dealt with, and lifestyle choices must be made to help prevent the addiction from reoccurring again.
The Canyon is a drug rehab center that has many treatment programs available for sufferers of drug addictions. Our staff is highly trained to handle both the mental and emotional problems that addicts suffer from, and with their help, you will be able to get your life back on track.
Recovery Starts in Rehab
There are a variety of behavioral therapies that have been shown to help patients recover from their addiction and remain free from it. One of these therapies that is commonly used is cognitive behavioral therapy to prevent relapse, where patients are taught how to think and act in new and different ways that will help keep them free from their addictions. For example, the patients are encouraged to avoid people or situations that may lead to drug use and to practice key drug refusal skills. Additionally, if they have momentary relapses, they are encouraged to think of them as "slips" instead of failures. This type of therapy has been shown to be a long-lasting and useful technique for many drug addicts.
Maintenance Treatment in Recovery and Drug Rehab
Maintenance treatment for heroin addicts involves oral ingestion of a dose of a synthetic opiate, usually methadone hydrochloride. This drug is administered at a high enough dosage to block the effects of heroin and result in a more stable state free from euphoria and the physiological cravings for opiates. In this state, patients are able to release themselves from their drug-seeking and criminal behavior and, with counseling and social services, they are able to become a more productive member of their community.
Recovery and Drug Rehab: It Works
The economic impact from drug abuse on society is estimate to be $67 billion per year. This number includes things like costs related to crime, drug addiction treatment, time lost from work and medical care. However, the treatment of drug abuse can lower these costs. Some studies have shown that for every dollar that is spent on treatment, between 4 and 7 dollars are saved. The personal costs of opiate addiction are arguable more severe, as they can take their toll on your physical and mental wellbeing, your family, your job and the social circles you are involved with. Drug addiction doesn't just cost the amount of the drugs; it costs a lot more, both for yourself personally and society in general.
