Drug Treatment: What to Expect
Any effective drug treatment should treat more than just the physical aspect of drug addiction. The emotional effects, psychological changes, the mental issues and the spiritual aspect of drug addiction should also be addressed. The best way to make sure that your drug treatment is as effective as possible is to choose a drug rehab that offers treatments for all of these issues in three different phases: drug detox, drug addiction treatment and drug addiction aftercare services.
At The Canyon, we offer all three of these phases of drug addiction treatment in both our inpatient and outpatient drug rehab programs. If you have questions about our program or would like to know how we can help you or your loved one fight back against drug addiction, contact us at The Canyon for a consultation today.
Drug Treatment: Drug Detox
Drug detox addresses the primary issue related to drug addiction: physical dependence upon your drug of choice. When you take drugs of addiction on a regular basis for any length of time, your body begins to change its chemical output based on the assumption that more of the drug will continue to be ingested. When you stop taking the drug, your body still isn't producing the chemicals you need, which leaves you with a deficit. The result? You feel sick. Depending upon your drug of choice, the symptoms of your detox will change, but they will begin within a few hours of your last missed dose and build slowly until they plateau.
Drug Treatment: Drug Addiction Treatment
Drug addiction treatment begins as soon after drug detox as you are ready. The focus during this phase of treatment is your mental, emotional, psychological and spiritual health. Therapies and holistic treatments that range from yoga, meditation and acupuncture to ropes/ adventures course therapy and art therapy are chosen according to their ability to address multiple aspects of drug addiction and provide treatment and healing. The therapies that are right for you will depend upon your experience both before and during your addiction and they will be updated according to your treatment goals and your progress during treatment.
Drug Treatment: Aftercare Services
Aftercare services, also known as continued care, describe the services your alcohol rehab provider offers you after you graduate from an alcohol addiction treatment program. These will be onsite or off and will give you more or less emotional support as you start your new life without drug and alcohol addiction. Offsite aftercare services usually include phone access to your counselor and/or intermittent support group meetings or one-on-one therapy until you find a local therapist to continue treatment. Onsite services are residential and called "sober living." These allow you to begin transitioning back into the community with 12=step meetings or even a job knowing that you can continue to return to a safe place that is drug- and alcohol-free.
