Information About Drug Treatment
No group of people is immune to the hazards of drug and alcohol addiction, but that does not mean that there is one singular treatment for this disease that is universal. To the contrary, there are a number of different styles and forms of drug treatment. At The Canyon, we provide a malleable structure and personalized treatment program that is built out of a number of different alternative and traditional therapeutic options. Addicts and alcoholics of all ages, races, ethnicities, genders and sexual preferences and identifications find respite at The Canyon. Whether you choose our inpatient residential treatment, outpatient day treatment or sober living option, you will find a drug treatment to suit your personal needs.
Drug Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation: The Basics
Drug addiction treatment should speak to a number of characteristics that will vary according to each person. These include:
- Primary drug of addiction
- Secondary drugs of addiction
- Amount of addictive dose
- Length of overall addiction
- Co-occurring disorders
Each drug of abuse may require a different approach for the detoxification portion of treatment, for example. Each also affects the brain in different ways, exacerbating pre-existing psychological disorders or even creating a new one in some situations. The length of time spent living a life of addiction may mean a shorter or longer time in treatment, and the experiences you encounter during that time may help determine which courses of therapy will be most effective. For example, if you have issues with mental health, occupation, medical health, or social issues, these should be addressed during a comprehensive drug addiction treatment. Drug treatment speaks to far more than just the physical effects of drug abuse.
Approaches to Drug Treatment
Some drug addiction treatment facilities provide only medical assistance during the detoxification phase of recovery. Their focus lies solely with the physical withdrawal symptoms that accompany the cessation of drug use. Others only accept new patients after they have completely detoxed off of their drug of choice. The focus here is the emotional addiction to drugs and addressing the behavior, trigger events and feelings that precipitates relapse so that you can identify it and preempt the relapse before it occurs.
At The Canyon, we combine behavioral therapy, medical detox, alternative therapies, gentle exercise and yoga as well as organic meals designed to continue the healing process. Every week, you will meet one-on-one with your therapist and determine what is working in your treatment, what you need more of, what you need less of and which new therapeutic options you'd like to integrate into your treatment plan. Our ultimate goal is to provide you with the strategies and tools you need to handle drug cravings and the urge to use when they are triggered at home while helping you to heal physically and mentally from the damage you incurred during your drug use.
Stages of Drug Treatment
No matter which approach is implemented, all drug treatment programs include three basic stages: evaluation and intake, stabilization, and re-integration. When you first enter drug treatment, you will undergo an evaluation and intake process. This means that you are interviewed about your drug history and have a basic physical and a psychological evaluation so that your clinical team acquires the information they need to treat you. During treatment, your goals are to heal physically and mentally but also to help you stabilize so that you feel normal and learn how to make decisions and get through each day without depending upon drugs and alcohol. At the end of your inpatient or outpatient treatment phase, you will reintegrate into your former life at home and implement your new skills as you navigate the pitfalls that previously led you into addiction. The Canyon is still with you during this phase, following up on your aftercare to make sure that you feel comfortable and safe at all times.
