Lindsay Lohan’s DUI Arrest Continues to Plague Her

Lindsay Lohan’s DUI Arrest Continues to Plague HerLohan’s ongoing legal issues remind us that addiction doesn’t just take a physical and emotional toll.

So often with addiction, we focus on the physical and emotional toll it takes on the individual user, but Lindsay Lohan’s ongoing legal issues remind us that substance use or abuse can cripple a career as well.

Lohan will begin serving her sentence on a necklace theft charge this week, and she has already appeared before a judge 10 times in the past year. Under a plea deal, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner will sentence Lohan to 120 days in jail and 480 hours of community service, the same punishment she imposed last month for a probation violation triggered by the theft charge, Los Angeles City Attorney spokesman John Franklin told CNN.com.

That’s right, a probation violation. While the necklace theft isn’t technically related to drugs or alcohol, it was two DUI convictions in 2007 that made the theft not just a criminal charge but also a probation violation. It’s clear to see that Lindsay’s past issues with alcohol continue to haunt her.

Lohan is likely to serve out her sentence under home confinement rather than in a jail cell. That means she’ll be fitted with (another) electronic monitoring bracelet. If she were to remain confined, overcrowding and time off for good behavior would likely shorten her sentence to approximately two weeks anyway.

Getting this jail time behind her – whether she serves at home or in a cell – is important to getting her career back on track. Lohan has reportedly been cast as Victoria Gotti in the upcoming film "Gotti,” set to begin production in October 2011. While sobriety should always be the primary concern, even celebrities need to make a living, and work rarely waits while we struggle with our ongoing recovery.
