Heroin Rehab and Teens

Heroin is becoming more and more common among teenagers in the United States. No longer an issue only for inner cities or prison populations, heroin use is widespread and our teenagers are at risk. If your teen has an issue with drug abuse and you suspect heroin addiction, then heroin rehab is the best, most efficient way to ensure your child's health.

At The Canyon, we provide heroin rehab for teens and adults alike. Our holistic program speaks not only to the physical dependence inherent to addiction but also to the emotional and mental issues that may fuel drug use.

Getting Your Teen to Heroin Rehab

Even if you think that heroin addiction or heroin abuse is a problem for your teenager, convincing him or her of that fact may be difficult. Few teens fully grasp the severity of problems and life threatening issues that come with just a little experimentation with the drug. Some say that they spent years using heroin off and on without becoming physically addicted while others say that physical dependence began with the first use. It's impossible to know how your teen's body will react to the drug and this is not the time to take a chance. So much of your child's future is starting right now and heroin can destroy all of it if not stopped immediately.

Helping Your Teen During Heroin Rehab

Once your teenager is enrolled in heroin rehab, you can rest assured that he or she is receiving the treatment, nutrition, medication and support necessary to begin a strong recovery. Though you may not be able to speak with him or her right away or visit as often as you like, you can let your child know that you are supportive of their choice to get treatment and your faith that it will be a successful venture by writing letters or being available for phone calls. Towards the end of treatment when family therapy is appropriate, you may be asked to take part more actively. Just make yourself available and listen to his or her concerns or needs as she goes through this difficult experience.

Supporting Your Teen After Heroin Rehab

When your child returns home after heroin rehab, you may feel on high alert. Concern that he or she may relapse, issues with catching up at school, suspicion around old friends or activities are all normal. The most important thing you can do is establish open communication with your teenager. Do not tolerate any drug use or abuse of any kind but don't accuse unless you are absolutely sure that a relapse has occurred. In general, though support group meetings and therapy are recommended, try to help your teenager focus on other things besides his or her drug use: extracurricular activities like sports or art may help your child make new friends and develop new hobbies that don't leave room for heroin.
