Hydrocodone Rehab Medications

Hydrocodone is a highly addictive prescription opiate, one that often requires prescription medication to treat the effects once hydrocodone addiction sets in. Medications like methadone, buprenorphine, Subutex and Suboxone can help break your hydrocodone addiction

The Canyon offers a hydrocodone rehab in just outside of Los Angeles, California. If you or someone you love is struggling with hydrocodone addiction and require a medical hydrocodone detox, contact us today for more information about how we can help you.

Hydrocodone Rehab Medications: Methadone

For those struggling with opiate addiction-including those who are addicted to prescription painkillers like hydrocodone-methadone is often the first line of defense. If your hydrocodone dose is so high that you can't safely stop taking the drug cold-turkey, then your doctor and the medical team at your hydrocodone rehab may determine that the best thing for you is to embark on a course of methadone to ease your hydrocodone withdrawal symptoms. Depending upon your hydrocodone dose, your methadone dose will vary. You may have an adjustment period while you and your doctors determine the correct methadone dose for you. After you adjust, you will slowly begin to step down that dose until you are completely drug free.

Hydrocodone Rehab Medications: Buprenorphine

Buprenorphine, a partial opioid agonist, is a successful tool during hydrocodone detox and rehab. This drug is similar enough to other opiates to block the nerve receptors and dissipate withdrawal symptoms, but different in that it doesn't offer the same euphoric high. It is usually offered for only the first few days of your hydrocodone detox after you stop taking your hydrocodone prescription. Because buprenorphine alone in the form of Subutex is subject to abuse, Suboxone was developed, a prescription drug that combines buprenorphine with the opiate antagonist naloxone, to decrease the chance of opiate abuse during hydrocodone detox.

Hydrocodone Rehab Medications: Suboxone

One of the benefits of Suboxone is that it has been shown to have anti-depressant effects over time in addition to helping you fight off opiate withdrawal symptoms. Suboxone is available through a prescription provided by a certified physician, so not every alcohol and drug rehab in the country will be able to provide you with a prescription. A relatively new drug, it is heavily regulated, but not as much as methadone. You will be able to take your prescription home with you when you leave inpatient hydrocodone rehab.
