Percocet Addiction

A popularly prescribed opiate painkiller, Percocet is a combination of oxycodone, a narcotic analgesic, and acetaminophen, an over the counter pain reliever sold under the brand name Tylenol. The combination of these two drugs increases the effectiveness of each, making Percocet a highly potent painkiller. Unfortunately, Percocet is also highly addictive and few who use it for any length of time, even when they follow their doctor's prescription to the letter, will escape without developing a Percocet addiction.

If you or someone you love is tired of being a slave to painkiller addiction, you can find help at The Canyon. We offer a Percocet rehab that will help you break your addiction to opiate painkillers like Percocet starting with a Percocet detox and followed by Percocet addiction treatment.

The Prevalence of Percocet Addiction

Percocet addiction is everywhere due to the ease with which doctors prescribe this highly addictive drug. Through no fault of your own, you may find yourself struggling with an opiate addiction simply by beginning a painkiller prescription after surgery or an accident. According to research, women are more likely to become addicted to Percocet because they are more likely to be prescribed the drug by their doctor and twice as likely to become physically addicted to the drug. For the same reasons, seniors are also a large part of the population addicted to Percocet.

But though many come to Percocet addiction quite by accident, prescription drug addiction is the number one drug of concern for teenagers and young adults under the age of 25. Because more and more people are being prescribed the drug, it is more likely to be found in medicine cabinets and therefore easy to access for teens. The population with the largest increase for Percocet addiction are teenagers between the ages of 12 and 18.

Percocet Addiction Symptoms

It is often difficult to discern when legitimate Percocet use turns into abuse and then evolves into addiction. The process can be slow; it's rarely an overnight occurrence, and if you are taking your prescription according to your doctor's orders, it makes it that much more difficult to figure out how to name what is happening to you. In general, if you find yourself craving the drug or highly focused on your dosing schedule, if you are supplementing your prescription with other drugs or alcohol or are procuring additional prescriptions fraudulently, if you are taking more than prescribed or taking your pills more often than prescribed, of if you find that you are incapable of handling the responsibilities and tasks that you used but still seek out the drug despite the negative consequences, then you may very well be addicted to Percocet.

Percocet Addiction Treatment

Though there is no cure for Percocet addiction or addiction to any drug, a number of highly effective Percocet addiction treatments are available. Inpatient and outpatient Percocet rehabs as well as inpatient Percocet detox or medicated outpatient detox are available.

Percocet Rehab at The Canyon

At The Canyon, we offer Percocet addiction treatment in the form of both outpatient and residential programs. Percocet detox is usually the first phase of either program and medications like methadone or buprenorphine may be employed if you and your doctor decide that it is a good choice for your personal circumstances. If you have any questions about what we can provide for you in terms of Percocet detox and addiction treatment, contact us at The Canyon today.
