Arrests Related to Corey Haim's Death

80s star's death may be linking to prescription drugsThe troubled teen star's addiction may have had him connected to a prescription drug ring.

Just a week after Corey Haim's death, officials say an arrest in a drug fraud case is linked to the former teen star and what officials are calling "a massive prescription drug ring." Stolen prescription pads and forged prescriptions will likely also play a role.

"We have a prescription that was fraudulently obtained for Vicodin in the name of Corey Haim ... and an individual connected with that operation has now been arrested," California Attorney General Jerry Brown announced.

Haim Before Death

Haim collapsed on March 10, 2010, at the Burbank, Calif., apartment he shared with his mother, who is undergoing cancer treatment. The troubled actor had been in the news in the past for his battle with drug addiction, but it will take weeks before toxicology reports confirm an official cause of death. Since his death, it's been widely reported that Haim obtained thousands of pills from dozens of doctors in the past 15 months, including Vicodin, Valium, Norco and Soma.

Haim's long-time co-star, Corey Feldman, as well as Haim's manager both claim the actor had been weaning himself off prescription drugs at the time of his death.

Drug Addict Enablers

This latest arrest seems to be part of a continuing trend where authorities are cracking down not just on addicted persons but those who help that addiction continue. Arrests have been made in connection with the deaths of Anna Nicole Smith and Michael Jackson, holding responsible doctors and others who help facilitate accidental drug deaths by prescribing drugs recklessly or helping an addicted person fraudulently obtain prescription drugs.
