Prescription Drug Rehab and Forging Prescriptions
Forging a prescription is illegal, and it is technically known as the illegal acquisition of pharmaceutical drugs, either for personal use or for profit. People who fraudulently create prescriptions can do so in numerous ways, such as going to multiple doctors for the same prescription or by rewriting the amount that the prescription is for. The biggest reason that people do these types of things is because they are abusing prescription drugs and are addicted to them.
The Canyon is a full-service prescription drug rehab center designed to help you break the cycle of addiction and return to a healthy, normal life. By using a combination of traditional and nontraditional therapies and experiences, patients receive the best possible chance to get their lives back on track.
Prescription Drug Rehab and Forging Prescriptions: The Law
The prison sentence for a person who in any way creates, alters or issues a fake prescription is anywhere from six months to one year. This includes the "uttering" of a forged prescription, which is where a person uses a forged document even though they know that it has been forged. For example, giving a forged prescription to a pharmacy is known as "uttering." In order to prove that a person has committed a crime, two things must be proven. First, it must be proven that a person has forged, uttered or otherwise altered a prescription for a drug or drugs. Second, it must be proven that the false prescription was for a drug of a narcotic nature.
Alternatively, someone can be convicted if it is shown that they gave a prescription for a narcotic drug and that the signature on the prescription was forged, fake or the prescription had been altered from its original state. If you are charged with forging a prescription, you should contact a lawyer immediately.
Prescription Drug Rehab and Forgery Laws
The act of forgery is the creation of a fake document or the alteration of a document, or putting a fake signature on a document in order to illegally benefit from what the document says or orders. This includes things like signing other people's names to legal documents, car loans, warranties and, yes, prescriptions for drugs. Forging documents and/or signatures is a serious offense, and you can be charged with a misdemeanor or even a felony.
Prescription Drug Rehab and General Forgeries
Forgery doesn't just cover prescriptions. It can happen in many other things, like forging a check in order to help fund your purchase of prescription drugs. Forgeries that you might use to get money in this manner include things like forging cashier's checks, money orders, trading stamps, documents in order to access others' bank accounts, leases, letters or powers of attorney. In short, there are an enormous variety of ways you can forge documents, but each and every one of them is illegal. If you have been caught forging documents in order to fuel your addiction, then drug rehab is one option at your disposal.
