John Mayer's Twisted Sense of Humor

John Mayer jokes about prescription drugsThe outspoken singer-songwriter finds himself in hot water for comments made during a Playboy interview, but he was courting controversy well before that.

It was backlash from comments made in an interview with Playboy that caused Twitter-happy John Mayer to take a break from communicating so freely with fans. This online silence was preceded by a tearful apology at a Nashville concert and via Twitter.

His comments, which included using the "N" word and likening his genitals to David Duke had media outlets and music fans buzzing. All the craziness had someone on Twitter commenting, "Just waiting for @johncmayer to follow up his apology with an announcement that he's going to rehab. I mean, it kinda worked for Tiger, no?"

Mayer apparently saw that post because he replied to it with, "They don't make rehab centers for being an a-hole."

The popular singer-songwriter does seem to have a problem with understanding the consequences of his comments.

Tweets About Prescription Drugs

Just a day before the Playboy controversy erupted, Mayer was joking via Twitter about huffing paint and taking powerful prescription drugs like Xanax.

"What's that song that goes 'It's a quarter after one, I just huffed a can of ceiling paint and I need you now?' I like that one," Mayer tweeted on Feb. 9, 2010. He followed that up with the musing, "I need to stop taking pills with names that are palindromes: Xanax, H-Coninoch, Lipilipil, Seresiseres XR, Odin's Fury."

Prescription drug addiction and huffing continue to be problems plaguing so many and certainly aren't funny. Maybe as Mayer examines his recent comments in the controversial article, he'll look back at some of these other comments and rethink them as well.
