Tara Sindler, MA, CADCA
Primary Therapist
Tara received her Master's In Psychology from the University of Santa Monica in August 2006 and is a certified substance abuse counselor through CAADAC. She has worked at The Canyon for over two years providing outstanding individual and group counseling and brings a holistic approach to working with people and how she facilitates her healing work. Tara believes that a person on a harmful path should not be treated like he or she is just someone with a "disorder," but as a human being who has real life issues and has acted out in isolation, withdrawal from work and friends, substance use, eating disorders, in sexual ways, or in any number of other problematic coping methods.
Tara specializes in providing extraordinary care for individuals suffering from eating disorders, addiction, and trauma. She integrates and applies mindfulness, meditation, cognitive behavioral therapies, psychodynamics, and somatic psychology in her work at The Canyon. Tara has a passion for working with victims of trauma and enabling them to overcome the obstacles that have impacted them negatively. She utilizes Somatic Experiencing to provide trauma resolution with our patients. Tara's personal and professional experiences allow her to bring compassion and awareness to individuals who struggle with eating issues as well as facilitating the change in how they see themselves. She brings a deep, personal appreciation of this therapeutic process to her work with clients as well as an awareness of how eating disorders affect families and friends.
In addition to her focus on eating disorders, Tara has worked with patients in many different areas of healing, including chemical dependency, anxiety, depression, and personality disorders. Tara is an integral part of our clinical team.
