Vicodin Detox

Vicodin is an opiate painkiller commonly prescribed for acute pain after a surgery or a physical injury. Unfortunately, because it is so often and easily prescribed, a number of those who view the prescription as temporary find themselves physically addicted to the drug by the time the pain is no longer an issue. It's calming effects and the slight euphoric high that some new users feel make it an even more desirable drug to abuse. Unfortunately, this high is fleeting and the process of taking more and more of the drug in order to achieve it again can end with Vicodin addiction.

If you are addicted to Vicodin, the only way to take care of the problem is to undergo a Vicodin detox like the one provided at The Canyon. We offer a Vicodin detox that is safe and efficient, a medically effective way to break your physical dependence upon Vicodin with as little discomfort as possible.

Vicodin Detox: What to Expect

Vicodin detox is actually a process that begins almost as soon as you stop taking the drug. Within a few hours of your last missed dose, you will begin to experience the physical effects of withdrawal. Vicodin withdrawal symptoms can include:

  • Bone and muscle pain
  • Headaches
  • Irritability and depression
  • Insomnia despite extreme fatigue
  • Stomach cramping and diarrhea
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Twitchiness and the inability to remain still

These symptoms will gain in intensity over the first three days to a week and will plateau before slowly beginning to dissipate. Some people say that their withdrawal symptoms lasted a month or more. Most who attempt to undergo an opiate detox alone do not make it through the experience without returning to Vicodin in order to assuage the pain.

Vicodin Detox: What Not to Do

It is extremely dangerous to attempt a Vicodin detox on your own or "cold turkey." Dropping from a high dose to none at all can cause serious physical problems. Even if you don't have any medical complications, the physical withdrawal symptoms alone are often enough to push people to return to their addictive behavior in a desperate attempt just to feel better. It is a far better investment of time and energy to check yourself into a Vicodin detox facility like The Canyon and make sure that you do it right the first time around.
