Vicodin Overview

Vicodin is a very powerful medication that is prescribed for pain relief and is one of the most abused painkillers on the market today. An opiate derivative like heroin and OxyContin, Vicodin is extremely addictive and can cause harmful side effects if used improperly. Although it is very good at relieving pain, if Vicodin addiction sets in, the withdrawal symptoms from the drug can mirror the pain that it was originally intended to block out.

At The Canyon, we provide a variety of services and treatments to help you fight back against Vicodin addiction. If you are suffering from Vicodin addiction, or you know someone who is, please call us at The Canyon; we can help.

How Vicodin is Abused

Vicodin is dispensed in tablet form and can be either taken orally, crushed and combined with water to be injected, or it can be crushed and then snorted. Many people who abuse Vicodin use fake prescriptions to obtain the drug, or they simply buy it off of the street. Some of the common signs that a person is abusing Vicodin is an abundance of prescription pads, doctor's notes, seeing multiple doctors at a time and having pills in bottles that do not match the label.

The Risks of Vicodin Overdose

Opiate painkillers are particularly easy to overdose on, as they are very potent and very addictive, and it is especially easy to overdose if you do not have a legitimate prescription for them. The most common way of overdosing on Vicodin is actually through a combination of drugs, when a user takes Vicodin in combination with another drug. Some of these types of drugs that have been known to have bad effects when combined with Vicodin include sedatives, antihistamines, analgesics and antidepressants.

Vicodin Withdrawal

Vicodin addiction can often go unnoticed until it is too late, and once it sets in, it is very difficult to recover on your own. One of the worst parts of addiction is that, if a person doesn't have enough of the drug in their system, they will suffer from withdrawal symptoms, which can be very painful and debilitating. To successfully treat opiate addictions that are caused by drugs like Vicodin, you should see help from an opiate rehab center, like The Canyon. At an opiate rehab center, you'll be given the help you need to deal with the addiction in productive ways, and you will be protected from the withdrawal symptoms. Some of these symptoms can include things like vomiting and nausea, muscle and bone pain, diarrhea, red or watery eyes, panic, irritability and excessive sweating. If you have any of these symptoms when you either miss a scheduled Vicodin dose, or when you try to stop taking the drug, you should seek professional medical help at once, as you may be dealing with an addiction problem.
